RESORT INFORMATION:
The village of Courchevel 1650 (also known as Moriond) is situated in the beautiful Savoie region of France, on the edge of the Vanoise National Park.
Courchevel is widely recognised as one of the most exclusive alpine ski resorts giving skiers direct access to 'Les Trois Vallees', the largest skiable domaine in the world.
The original village of Moriond forms the basis for the resort of Courchevel 1650, giving it a colloquial, friendly atmosphere which contrasts nicely with that of its near neighbour, the glamorous celebrity filled town, Courchevel 1850.
For most of the year, Moriond is a sleepy mountain village with a few local residents but each year, from mid December until the end of April, the whole area is transformed into a winter wonderland and chic alpine ski resort.
There are all the facilities you would expect in a top quality resort - numerous hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and 3 excellent supermarkets selling everything you will need for a self catered family holiday and even its own local cinema and church. There is a weekly street market where you can buy local cheeses, meats and wines and the Tourist Information Office in the centre of the village will provide you with all the information you need on local activities and events during your stay in the resort.
In the centre of the village you will find the two local ski schools, Ecole Ski Francais (ESF) and the smaller English speaking New Generation ski school, which has established itself as the ski school of choice for most British visitors to the resort.
A free bus service links all four Courchevel resorts allowing you easy access to a huge variety of bars, restaurants and après-ski activities including ice-climbing, ski-dooing, sledging, swimming and tenpin bowling.
Between 1650 & 1550 is the swimming pool complex (Les Grandes Combes) with its 10 tennis courts, climbing wall, basketball court and restaurant although most of these facilities are closed during the winter season when the area opposite the complex is used for Go-Karting on Ice!
Apres-Ski:
Courchevel 1650 is much smaller than Courchevel 1850, but has a great selection of bars and restaurants (and much cheaper than 1850!). Some favourite haunts are Rocky's bar, the Signal Bar, the Bubble Bar and the Space Bar (for late night festivities).
Eating out, options like the L'Eterlou (great pizzas), Petit Savoyard (local specialities) and La Montagne offer great food at reasonable prices. Also don't forget that the unlimited facilities of 1850 are only a 5 minute drive up the mountain.
Other Activities
Ice Skating, Bowling, Toboganning, Skidooing, Ice Climbing, Hand-Gliding, Snow Rafting, Cinema, Arts Galleries, Fitness Centre, Squash
